About You


  • As an Aviation Safety Manager, you will have broad operational knowledge and experience in aircraft operations, air traffic management, aerodrome operations and aviation maintenance. You will be able to demonstrate your experience in the interpretation and application of Aviation and Safety related legislation and standards. You will have the ability to identify and implement safe work solutions and promote a just culture with a focus on safety. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • This position will require you to be approved as a Safety Manager by CASA and hold formal qualifications in incident/hazard investigative techniques, auditing and aviation safety management.


About the Role


  • Implement, maintain and review the RFDS WA Aviation Safety and Quality Management System (SQMS).
  • Liaise with CASA and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) on safety-related issues as required.
  • Triage of all Aviation hazards and incidents and investigating or assigning the appropriate investigation and reporting on outcomes including proposed mitigating actions and completion.
  • Compilation of safety data, results and trend monitoring
  • Advise management and staff of safety related matters, safety trends, safety analysis and audit and investigation results. These matters and trends will be sourced not only from RFDS WO experience, but also from lessons learned with other operators.
  • Provide advice and expertise on CASA regulations and Aviation matters in general.
  • Act as the CASA approved Fatigue Risk Manager and maintain the Fatigue Risk Management System overseeing the continuous improvement, FRMS training, promotion and reporting.
  • Contribute to the implementation, monitoring and review of processes, tools and systems to identify, assess, measure, manage, monitor and report risks as per the risk management framework.
  • Contact Officer for the Transport Security Program (TSP), liaises with the governing agency and provides internal company communications with regard to the TSP.
  • Carry out investigations of aviation related security occurrences as well as conduct audits of the TSPs as part of the RFDS internal audit process.
  • Implement and maintain a Safety Promotion and Communication Plan that promotes safety awareness and a positive safety culture that promotes positive reporting culture amongst staff.
