The function of the Material Specialist is to ensure materials are made available and meets Heavy Maintenance utilisation.

 

Material Specialist will be responsible for the end-to-end logistics coordination applied to individual projects, setting up professional relationships with vendors, and ensuring that the appropriate spares are available at MRO facilities to support Heavy Maintenance activities.

 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

 

MRO Materials supply management

  • Understand business needs within their requirement and contribute to the development of appropriate materials strategy related to External MRO support in order to ensure value for money, high levels of service and compliance with procedures and professional best practice.
  • Manage executed Heavy Maintenance contractual strategy with regards to materials and freight through various streams. Work closely with Cross-Functional Teams, providing regular updates to the stakeholders and Engineering senior management.
  • Action AOG, CRITICAL and ROUTINE requisitions to satisfy business requirements
  • Monitor part movements to ensure availability for planned maintenance and defect rectification within Heavy Maintenance environment
  • Minimise deferrals out of Heavy Maintenance
  • Mailbox management of purchasing, repairs and logistics requirements

 

MRO Materials and Logistics Support Program Continuous Improvement 

  • Freight cost control and supplier management through a process of Vendor Management Meetings (supplier Performance Meetings) with correlating vendor KPIs.
  • Review all current Materials and Freight cost and MIN/MAX levels relating to Heavy Maintenance operations and ensure that the best outcome is being achieved. Where required liaise with SCCM team and look to alternate options of Freight shipment to ensure best outcome for the business is achieved
  • Research and analysis of stock holdings to ensure appropriate spares are located at MRO facility in order to support planned work.

 

MRO Logistics and Materials Reporting 

  • Develop database for C check Materials & Logistics activities
  • Provide adequate reporting of Heavy Maintenance spend related to logistics and materials to Engineering Senior management
  • Analyse and compare Heavy Maintenance freight cost per event

 

To be considered, we are seeking the following key attributes:

  • A minimum of five years of procurement (purchasing or repairs) or logistics experience, preferably in an operational environment
  • A degree in relevant field such as business management or logistics is preferred
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • An understanding of aircraft maintenance materials
  • A working knowledge of MIS and Microsoft Office applications
  • 5 Years relevant experience in Aviation Industry.
  • Experience at a high capacity passenger transport operator
  • Strong customer focus
  • Must have the knowledge & skill to integrate all elements of the organisation to achieve goals
  • Ability to communicate & negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Departmental processes and procedures.
  • Process driven, with experience in constructing new process’s to deliver business goals.
  • Highly motivated and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Able to build effective working relationships, enjoy working in a team.
  • Analytical ability using IT platforms.
  • Proven problem solving skills and an effective team leader.
  • Understanding of aircraft support systems including.
  • TRAX, AIRMAN, AIRNAV, ROCADE, AHM, TOOLBOX, MBF and Microsoft Office applications
