What you’ll be doing:

As our Legal Counsel, Ethics and Compliance, you'll help shape and strengthen Virgin Australia's culture of integrity by supporting the delivery and continuous improvement of our Ethics and Compliance Program. Partnering with teams across the business, you'll provide practical legal and compliance advice on regulatory change, policy development, due diligence, investigations, training and key compliance initiatives. This is a fantastic opportunity for a junior lawyer to build specialist expertise in ethics and compliance while gaining broad exposure in a fast-paced, in-house environment.

You’ll be great in this role if you:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Laws
  • Have around 2 to 3 years post-admission experience in a reputable law firm, in-house legal team or compliance function, with exposure to regulatory compliance matters
  • Provide practical, solutions-focused advice that balances legal risk with commercial outcomes
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders across all levels of an organisation
  • Bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and sound legal judgement and know when to escalate matters appropriately
  • Are confident working independently, taking initiative and handling sensitive and confidential matters with discretion
  • Enjoy learning and are keen to build your expertise in ethics, compliance and regulatory advisory work.

Bonus points if you also have:

  • Experience working in-house or on client secondments
  • Exposure to compliance programs, policy development, third-party due diligence, investigations or regulatory projects
  • Experience in aviation, loyalty, or another highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks and areas such as anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions, whistleblower programs, conflicts of interest, and/or third-party risk management
  • Experience using technology, data, reporting or systems to improve legal or compliance processes.

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • A flexible, hybrid work style. Work from home or the office, adapt your location to suit your style and needs
  • One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and on-site gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road
  • Discounts on travel insurance, lounge membership, car hire, accommodation, and experiences worldwide
  • Cheaper hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness services
  • Free counselling and access to a wellbeing app to support your physical, mental, social and financial health
  • ‘Dress for Your Day’ – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever makes you feel great for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you.
