Composites Technology Research Malaysia, better known as CTRM, started its humble journey in the early 1990s. In November 2013, the Ministry of Finance Inc. transferred its ownership in CTRM to DRB-HICOM, Malaysia's leading conglomerate. CTRM’s main objective and obligation is clearly to take the lead in developing the advanced composites industry in Malaysia by developing People, Capability and Products. Today, CTRM has transformed to become one of the leading composite aerostructure manufacturers in the global market.
The composites manufacturing facility of CTRM is located in Batu Berendam, Melaka, and has a constant workforce of 2,000 employees. The 810,000-square-foot complex is a purpose-built advanced composite manufacturing facility, housing high-tech machinery and equipment such as autoclaves, routing and drilling 5-axis (CNC) machines, and ultrasonic C-scan non-destructive testing (NDT) machines, which are among the main processing equipment.
Additionally, CTRM has the capacity to offer testing services for all incoming receipt tests (IRT) and in-process testing (IPT), which BOEING and AIRBUS have approved. It is also the only composite test lab in Asia to be NADCAP-approved. Apart from aerospace manufacturing, CTRM has also expanded into sub- and major assembly activities and provides composite testing services, composite R&D and R&T, and composite repair. CTRM diversified its business into composite aircraft interiors, aircraft seats and transportation, while also designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing and commissioning RADOME units (a dome-shaped, weatherproof enclosure that protects a radar antenna but is transparent to radio waves).
CTRM has adapted its business strategy which identifies their vision as "To be the CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE for the global composites and aerospace industry" and their mission as "To be the PARTNER OF CHOICE in the global composites and aerospace industries through the development of human capital, capability and products". CTRM's purpose statement, ‘We are passionate about building trust to connect lives and businesses for a better tomorrow’, is being conveyed and promoted via various information platforms for this message to be accepted and implemented at all levels.
CTRM has received a number of international accolades, including the Premium Award from Raytheon Technologies and the Perfect Delivery Award from Collins Aerospace, for their ability to manufacture high-quality products. The Airbus Supplier Quality Improvement Process (SQIP) Awards, which CTRM has received annually from 2015 to 2019, are also noteworthy. The 18th Employer Branding Awards has also recognised CTRM as the Malaysia Best Employer Brand Awards for 2023.
